Did you know that Otolaryngology (commonly referred to as ear, nose and throat physicians) is the oldest medical specialty in the United States? Otolaryngologists also specialize in conditions affecting the head and neck. This central part of the body contains the important nerves that control the face, sight, smell, and hearing. In the head and neck area, otolaryngologists are trained to treat infectious diseases, facial trauma, both benign and malignant (cancerous) tumors, and deformities of the face. Typically, otolaryngologists perform both reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery.
